Snorkeling in a Cenote

GRAND PALLADIUM RIVIERA - Royale Area
Cabana Suite

Andrew & Jacquelyn  ~ San Diego, CA

Accomodations
Room Size: 5  The cabana was very spacious.  It was like a home away from home.

Amenities: 4  The only thing that would have made them a little nicer would be if the refrigerator kept things cold.  When we asked the hotel staff, they said that they are trying to be more eviromentally friendly, so they are not actually refrigerators, but coolers.  The drinks did finally get cold, but it took a day or two.

Service:
5  Being part of the Royale group definitely came with some perks!!  The room service was very good and quick.  Not to mention that the bell boys were by within minutes of us calling for a ride.  The only thing that would have been nice is if they had a better way of keeping the ants out of the room.  We seemed to have an ant problem in our cabana.  Although, when called, the staff would run right over with spray and take care of the problem.

Restaurants: 5  There were so many choices, it was amazing.  Every night we ate at a different resturant.  In six days we didn't even get to try all of them.  Although all of them were great, we really recommend the Mexican and Brazilian resturants.

Pool/common areas: 5-  Once again their were numerous pools to choose from.  We really liked the pool just for the Royale group.  That way we could just enjoy the pool without kids running around.  The main pool has a really cool built in bar.  So you just belly up to the bar while you are in the water.  Common areas were kept very clean.

Enterainment: N/A - The resort had many plays and shows, unfortunitely we would have dinner so late that we didn't make any of them.

Location: 4 - Location is good and bad.  First the bad. You end up taking a 1 - 1.5 hour van ride to get to the resort.  We really recommend paying for the upgraded non-stop ride.  It was nice not having to stop by all the other resorts along the way on a bus.  Being so far away from downtown Cancun you get away from all the touristy/americanized areas.  Now the good.  You are away from most of the touristy stuff.

Over-all: 5 - Everything was wonderful.  Was able to finally take a vacation and relax.  We would just like to give those of you that are used to the americanized resorts a heads up.  Most Grand Palladium Riviera staff members only speak spanish.

Tours: Mayan Adventure - When we talked to the Apple Vacations representative, he recommended the snorkeling tour.  The tour took us to three different locations.  The first place was a river inlet into the ocean.  Next was a fresh underground water cave.  It was increadibly clear and very unique.  I wish we would have stayed longer in the cave.  The last place was an open water hole with zip lines and cliff diving.  Over all we had a wonderful time, except for Jacky having problems with her mask and hair getting stuck!!

Did you explore any of the surrounding area on your own?: N/A - Their was so much to do at the resort so we never ventured out.

What is one thing that everyone traveling to this area should do or see?: Couples massage.  We got a wonderful/professional couples massage for around $120 total.  It was so relaxing.

Vacation over-all: 5 - was able to just relax.  Do be afraid to ask questions, the staff members (that speak english) are very helpful and accomodating.
